My Christmas Wreath

11.23.2008
This week I attended a couple of classes at the DECO Clay Craft Academy and this is one of the things that I made :). I am so happy about this one. I just love it! I love all the glitter, all the pearls and I love how the white, pink, silver and gold go together. Now, I am just waiting for it to dry enough, so that I can hang it at home.

The wreath has anemones with golden centers and roses, which look like they are made of fabric. They aren't. They are made of clay. But this is a new technique that Yukiko taught me.
I am keeping this post real short for lack of time. I have lots of work to finish this week. But do let me know how you like this creation of mine.

What a gorgeous wreath Deb. I would be proud to hang it in my home

It is so delicate and sparkly. Is it for wearing, like a tiara? How long does something like this take to make?

i read this before and then came back because i couldn't remember if i commented or not!

it's a beautiful wreath. with all of your flower work, i look at closeups and i just stare and stare because they're so striking and gorgeous, and it's hard to believe that something so delicate and beautiful and convincing can be made with clay.

Jennie, Jackie, Melanie - Thanks so much! I love this wreath too.

Linda - This one is for hanging on the wall. Its more than 10 inches across :). It took me around 3 hours to make this one. I did not make the base though (the one that has the sticks and the pearls.... I just made the flowers)

Sarah - I would love to put up similar wreaths on sale. But the base isn't available anymore. :( I just love how sparkly it is and yet looks so elegant!

Julia - Thanks! The clay I use is called DECO Clay. My teacher and her mom have been working on this clay for years! DECO Clay is an incredibly soft clay, which is easy to work with and once its dry, it is very sturdy. So, while it lends itself to delicate shapes, I don't have to worry about breakage... well, at least not until someone decides to jump on it :)

Thanks Schar! :) That's nice of you to say that you like the way I write. Because, I am often at a loss for words and end up being verbose in order to express myself :). If I had my way, I would probably just post pictures and run away... LOL!

Ah, I understand!

Deb, I am in complete agreement. You should post one of these. As the base is no longer available, what about making one? You know what would look fabulous - base of silver magnolia leaves. Just an idea. I'm sure these would sell like hotcakes (I've never quite understood that saying).
:)
